I will be at the Southeastern Harp Weekend, on Oct  23rd through the 27th in Ashville North Carolina, showing a brand new custom carved Myrtle wood 36 string nylon harp.

This weekend !! :-)

This harp is carved with angels in flight, a crescent moon with a semiprecious stone set inside it, crystals, gold leaf, painted and carved feathers and also it sounds really, really GOOD ! :-)  Come and see me and my lovely wife Laurie, of Markwood Heavenly Strings & Cases, at booth 'B' ! :-)

Here are some shots of this harp under construction .

Here is a video of me playing  this new 12th century French Lyre! ;-)

I just completed this very special 10 string Lyre. It is designed to be a possible re-creation, of a  12th century French /English Lyre that perhaps would have been played in the court of Henry II and Elanor of Aquatint. I built it to be played on stage during a semi-professional production of 'The Lion in Winter', at the Camelot Theater in Talent Oregon. It is built with 40 year air-dried Engelman Spruce and Black Walnut, with gold leaf work, painted decoration and crystal inlays.

These are photos of a re-created 7 string Viking Lyre I created for a client several years ago, using Oregon Myrtle wood and Engleman Spruce. There are inset amber 'eyes', in the stylized dragon heads carved on the top of the Lyre. The string tension is quite light, with three different string gauges used.
